The Laboratory includes two sections separated by their length scale of observation and testing. Both sections are used for educational and research purposes. The more conventional length scale, that of centimeters, is investigated in the Macro-scale mechanics section (MacroLab) where the fundamental concepts of mechanics of materials are validated experimentally in the lab. The Small-Scale Mechanics sections (NanoLab) includes equipment that can probe the mechanics of materials at small scales (nanometers to micrometers). With the combined usage of equipment the laboratory can probe the mechanical response of materials at the level of their composition to the level of practical applications. Furthermore the lab includes a computational section (SimLab) with several computers and workstations equipped with finite element and solid modeling software.
